Food waste is a global problem. Over 30 per cent of fresh produce (worth 1.3 billion tonnes) is wasted globally every year. One of the United Nations sustainable development goals (12.3) is to halve the per capita global food waste by 2030.

UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM IN UGANDA
10 million tonnes of fresh produce (Ugx 16 Billion worth) goes to waste in Uganda every year. This could feed 23 million Ugandans that go hungry every year. 3 million tonnes (Ugx 4.6 Billion worth) of fresh produce is wasted even before it leaves the farm. This could feed more than 10,000 people for a year Household wastes approximately 20% of their weekly shop. Costing a family Ugx 600,000/year
